Amish Barn Stars

A question about the Amish and Mennonites:?
I recently went to visit friends who live in Lancaster, PA. I realized 2 things: A lot of houses with a star on the outside. After some quick research I discovered is a star barn. The next observation I made is many homes have a candle (some electric) in the center of each window frame. Would anyone know the symbolism behind it?
The mosaic of ethnic groups Amish Country present have resulted in a rich tapestry of Old and New World traditions of Christmas. Many of the more interesting traditions are unique to our German heritage Pennsylvania. Candles Candles, of course, have always been a part of Christmas celebrations. In the Old World German Martin Luther is credited with being the first person put candles on a tree, "to represent the glory and beauty of the stars above Bethlehem." In Ireland, the ancient custom was to "leave a lighted candle in the window to light the way for the Child Jesus on the eve of Christmas. "It is interesting to observe the ancient tradition in Europe of" enlightenment ", By which a prince's birthday was celebrated by putting candles in the windows. In Windows for Amish Visitors notice that we often have country candles windows throughout the year, not just during the holiday season. The practice throughout the year apparently began several years ago, when a house tour left their local Christmas candles in windows as a sign of welcome. The idea seemed to catch on as people find it attractive, especially in older homes. So is now nostalgic look hot can be enjoyed by Lancaster and visitors at any time of year.
